I wouldn't argue with that Marty I think 99% of the population are fucking nuts with regards to what makes them tick. That's one of the reasons I fancy doing something that involves me avoiding them as much as possible.

When I look at our warped society I'm glad to be a reject

A proper driver would know there is no such thing as a slow lane.

Re: Becoming a lorry driver
When you're on the motorway stay in the slow lane and leave the rest to proper drivers. Thanks in advance

Re: Becoming a lorry driver
Bit of very good advice is if/when you have lessons do them in a full size truck, not an uprated 7.5 tonne or a wagon and drag.

Davey

The licence is the same but you need to do different courses to carry fuel , acids, explosives etc

I just have a bog standard licence , but an ADR certificate can get another couple of quid an hour and make you easier to employ.

Gun

Only if you are illegal

This is why we do daily checks and CPC courses if you flout the law you deserve all you get

I've been fined in Germany twice

Every time my fault , never been fined in UK.

Re: Becoming a lorry driver
There are plenty of companies that will get you through the process.
My father's golf buddy kept asking if I wanted to work for his company. They would of paid for me to get my HGV licence. This would be mainly to drive food/milk tankers. Not sure if the licence is the same as fuel tankers.
Have a scout around Industrial Estates.Companies are always advertising.

riosleftsock 9:18 Fri Aug 28
Re: Becoming a lorry driver
Its a shit job nowadays, unless you can get on the fuel tankers.

Proper money, closed shop deal.

Dangerous but comes with the same perks as being a tube driver/BA pilot

Re: Becoming a lorry driver
First of all get a medical then you can apply for a provisional class 2 licence

Then do theory test
then spend almost 1500 on a class 2 licence

Then spend the same again doing a class 1

After you get said licence just get any job because a lot of company's want you to have a years experience for insurance reasons

This is the shit bit , plenty of work about delivering stuff for tesco McDonald's Starbucks etc , this is called supply chain and I hate it but the agency's take on new drivers so this is a way to get experience

Pay for supply chain starts at 10 an hour and can go up to 21

Once you have a year under your belt then you can knock on doors and get something better

If you want to do what I do get a years worth and ill get you in

Rock and roll work is a grand a week , conference work is just under 800

Zero hour contracts no work , no pay but you get to drive all over Europe with the biggest groups in the world and conference work comes with a hotel half the time.

You will never be out of work with a class one.

Bru' - seriously mate dont bother

Shit job in general, isn't what it was. There is a reason that there is a shortage.

If you insist, then make sure you specialise as soon as possible, cars, liquid or own account long haul. They are the places where the money (of sorts) is made, regular general haulage or retail tramping is filth
